Quick and Easy Javascript Slideshow

Screen shot 2009-11-16 at 12.05.15 PM

I’ve tried a lot of different slideshows to get something super easy to use that didn’t require a ton of backend work to make it fit the site I was working on. This might be the easiest. Simple Javascript file, simple css files and easy to edit the pictures and appearance/size. Here’s where I installed it today: http://www.tennep.com/solar.php

CSS/Javascript Text Resize

Picture 8Want to get one of those fancy little text resizers for your website? I found this nifty little tool while searching for a solution for my client. Here’s the script and thorough installation instructions: Cut and Paste Document resizer. I’ll post a link to the working script on the client site once it launches.

Lightbox Effects, smaller and quicker

Picture 2

Just a quick post to point out a fun tool I’ve been using lately to get more done using less scripts and more open-sourced projects.

Using a lightbox effect on any of your pages? I was using Lightbox2 on most projects until I discovered a lighter, simpler version recently. Introducing Slimbox2. All the goodness of Lightbox2 in a 4K script. Also, using Google to serve your jQuery speeds up your page even more. This site’s post tells you how: 3 reasons why you should let Google host jQuery for you.

That’s all I’ve got for right now but I wanted to pass it along while it was fresh :)

Safari 4 Beta

Here’s an in-depth and thoughtful review of the new (a few weeks old anyway) beta of Apple’s Safari web browser: Usability Post. I especially like the way Dmitry has broken down the tab resizing issues clearly.

I had some usability issues with Safari 4 as well but really only on my desktop computer. I use a stylus or tablet there so when I click on the tabs, if I’m not very accurate and only using a straight up and down motion, the entire browser window moves rather than selecting the next tab. I switched to the old way of displaying tabs after only a day.

If you haven’t tried the new beta, give it shot here: Safari

The easiest JS slider I’ve seen yet

picture-1Looking for an easy way to implement some slick sliding content like we have on the front page of our website? Look no further than Easy Slider 1.5. I just set this up on a site in less than thirty minutes and the effect is way more impressive than that.

Give it a try and let us know how it works for you :)

UPDATE: The client no longer uses the slider so don’t use that link to judge how well it works :) It’s totally worth the (free) download and the time to install.
